The grip is the base tape that comes pre-installed on the racket, while the overgrip goes on top to improve grip and absorption.

Visually, the main difference is that the overgrip is thinner, so you can adjust the handle thickness to your liking. The grip also has adhesive along its whole length, whereas the overgrip only has glue at one end, to hold it in place when you start wrapping.

Start at the bottom of the handle and wrap the overgrip upwards in a spiral, keeping a light, steady tension. Don't overstretch it: that's how it keeps its absorption and grip. Each turn should overlap the previous one slightly for an even, comfortable finish.

Every Samo Grip box includes a step-by-step guide so you fit it properly and get the best grip from your first match.

If you play 2-3 times a week, changing the overgrip every 3-5 matches is normal.

If you sweat a lot or you compete, sooner.

A worn overgrip loses grip and absorption.

White overgrips make it easy: when they get dirty and darken, you can see it's time to change.

Choosing between a perforated or a smooth overgrip depends on how it feels to you and on how much you sweat.

In 80% of cases we recommend the smooth one: more uniform feel and more consistent grip.

With heavy sweating or humidity, the perforated one can work better: it channels sweat towards the base grip and keeps a drier feel while you play.
